British actor Charlie Cox has been cast in the lead role of Netflix and Marvel’s upcoming original superhero series “Daredevil,” according to multiple reports. He will assume the titular role previously played by Ben Affleck in the critically reviled 2009 film of the same name.
Cox’s previous credits include “Boardwalk Empire” and “Stardust.”
“Daredevil” is the first of five series Marvel Television, in association with ABC Television Studios, is producing for Netflix. Others include 13-episode shows for second-tier Marvel superheroes such as “Luke Cage,” “Iron Fist,” and “Jessica Jones,” as well as “The Defenders,” an “Avengers”-like mini-series event that brings all of these characters together.
Over last weekend, news broke that filmmaker Drew Goddard stepped down as showrunner on “Daredevil.” He has been replaced by “Spartacus” creator Steven S. DeKnight, but will remain on as a consultant for the series.
