When VideoInk interviewed Link from the comedy duo Rhett & Link earlier this year as part of a Playlist Live interview series, he picked Flula Borg as a fellow YouTuber to watch out for in 2014. That comment seems prophetic in hindsight with the news that Borg, who specializes in absurdist comedy and music videos on the world’s biggest site, has signed on to star in “Pitch Perfect 2.”
As reported by Deadline, Borg will be playing a member of an a capella group that competes with the protagonists played by returning cast members Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, Brittany Snow, and Skyler Astin.
The German-born Borg is a multi-threat, regularly produces music and comedy — and sometimes musical comedy — videos for his YouTube channel, which has more than 350,000 subscribers and a lifetime view-count of over 45.7 million. Popular series include “I Have 10 Minutes,” in which Borg performs something his Twitter followers prompt him to when he has 10 minutes to spare, and “Flogs,” his version of vlogs where he details American idioms that he finds ridiculous.
Borg’s flagship show, though, is “Auto Tunes.” The series features the creator in his car or other modes of transportation, remixing songs — sometimes with celebrity guests like Sir Mix-A-Lot, Jason Segel, Vince Vaughn, Steve Carell, and Will Ferrell.
Produced by Universal Pictures and Gold Circle Films, “Pitch Perfect 2” will mark the feature film directorial debut of actress Elizabeth Banks. The screenplay comes from the first film’s writer Kay Cannon.
