Defy Media’s EVP, Barry Blumberg, stopped by VideoInk’s pop-up studio to share some expert advice on the business of creating videos for YouTube. From the industry side, Defy Media serves YouTube creators by expanding their brands across multiple platforms, a tactic Blumberg says is key to engaging and expanding a creator’s audience. While he praised YouTube as the perfect partner for creators, he insists that engagement with the audience must come from various other social media platforms in order to make a video or a channel into a brand. Citing Defy’s success with multi-platform sensation Smosh, Blumberg said, “There’s a whole world out there…you want to be connecting with the people you’re creating the content for.”
From the business side perspective of digital media, Blumberg’s message to creators places great faith in the passion and authentic ingenuity that drives current and aspiring YouTube stars. “I think the most important thing is to keep doing what you’re doing and to love what you do,” he explained.
