British beauty vlogging sensation Fleur DeForce met up with the VideoInk at this year’s VidCon to discuss how her YouTube channel launched her career, which has more or less become her life. Her DIY videos about makeup, style, and fashion have resulted in a loyal and ever-growing following of viewers and subscribers. For Fleur, engaging with her viewers is a constant part of the job that expands beyond the videos themselves. She mentions her active presence on Instagram and Twitter, and her efforts to respond to as many comments and questions as humanly possible to maintain a relationship with her followers. “I think it’s just a matter of making it a part of your life,” she said of her social media activity.
To Fleur, her relationship with her fans is one that defines every aspect of her career — from the creative to the business side of it. On the topic of branding, she disclosed that while brands are constantly approaching her for collaboration opportunities, she has to protect the authenticity that her viewers and fans have come to expect from her. “When your audience are putting that kind of trust in you, you have to be talking about things that you love and things that you’re passionate [about]…You can’t lie to them because they know you so well,” she explained.
