Red Bull Media House has inked a deal with The Orchard, a music, film, and video distribution company, to release a slew of sports films to digital and cable platforms worldwide.
The new deal, an expansion of an existing partnership between the two companies to digitally release films like “The Art of Flight,” kicks off in 2014 with the releases of the ski film “Days of My Youth,” the Dana Brown motorcycle documentary “On Any Sunday, The Next Chapter,” and the mountain-biking adventure pic “Rad Company.” The first two films are targeted for a fall rollout, while “Rad Company” was released last month.
For The Orchard, the Red Bull pact is the latest step in an expansion of its action sports catalog over the past few years. Currently, the distributor’s library consists of 500 action-sports titles. A recent release, Sherpas Cinema’s “Into the Mind,” hit #22 on the top movies chart in the US on iTunes.
The company supports its action-sports catalog through EchoBoom Sports, an imprint and YouTube channel dedicated to the category. The channel features trailers, bonus footage, “making of” clips, interviews, and other video content designed to showcase and promote the library.
EchoBoom is also a part of The Orchard’s multi-channel network on YouTube, which is consistently ranked by comScore as one of the top-10 MCNs in the US in terms of monthly audience.
