Discovery’s annual Shark Week always gets a lot of buzz. From discounts for shark tattoos at various parlors (yes, this really happens) to the fact that the week generated the “most social programming ever” for Discovery last year, it only makes sense that there would be plenty of online programming to follow.
Shark Week begins on Discovery’s TV channel on Sunday, August 10, but online programming begins on August 9. Starting at 10:30pm PT, Fin Fest in California’s Hermosa Beach will be live-streamed at FinFest.com, complete with interactive opportunities like voting and checking out bands on the event’s main stage.
Further programming on Shark Week’s digital platform, SharkWeek.com, include the “Shark Cage Cam,” described as a “virtual cage-diving experience,” along with the “Jaws Strikes Back Cam,” “Sharkageddon Cam,” and “Shark Fin Cam,” to name a few. The lineup also welcomes back the National Aquarium for another week of partnership wherein those looking through the “Shark Cam” get constant, live access to Baltimore aquarium’s Blacktip Reef shark exhibit.
Also on SharkWeek.com, “After Shark After Dark Live,” which will be hosted by YouTube star Taryn Southern, will air after the week’s live show “Shark After Dark Live.” The 10-minute after-show will allow shark enthusiasts to make suggestions for the live television broadcast while also getting a behind-the-scenes look at the action.
Discovery is partnering with Facebook to help make a lot of the social activities the network has planned for the week, which celebrates its 27th birthday this year.
