With NFL Now recently bringing football enthusiasts daily footage on AppleTV and the web, it’s time to acknowledge the digital viewing needs of fans of America’s national pastime. Baseball season is in full swing, and certain YouTube channels are striving to meet the needs of people who might have missed their home team’s latest games.
As Devon Herrington, DigitasLBi Boston’s manager of account management, sees it, baseball fans are “tremendously passionate” (coming from Boston, that’s almost an understatement). However, she continues, “Not all baseball fans have the time, or the attention span, to sit through every game of the season — and those who do may seek to relive those memorable in-game moments again — offering up opportunities to reach this audience on YouTube.”
YouTube also provides another outlet for “exclusive content,” which sports fans “increasingly expect, whenever and wherever they are,” says Herrington. The following YouTube creators understand this concept and are consequently growing their online presence. When you root for the home team, whether it be the Red Sox or the Yankees, consider checking out the following channels spotlighted by Outrigger Media’s Emerging Talent Tracker tool.

You may not be able to understand a word of what’s going on, but luckily, baseball transcends language barriers. The fast-paced, slapstick style action and levity of this channel separates it from the others in this category, as does its overall humorous approach to enjoying America’s favorite pastime outside of the US.

Deportes Telemundo includes its fair share of attractive girls wearing bikinis in between sports footage, and baseball videos certainly make their appearance in the mix. This Spanish language channel also includes interviews with the athletes, like this one with the Red Sox’s David Ortiz below:

Answering the call of Yankees fans everywhere (read: Yankees fans in New York), YESNetwork pays homage purely to the navy and white as far as baseball is concerned (the channel only showcases one other sports team — the NBA’s Brooklyn Nets). In addition to highlighting relevant Yankees news and clips, this YouTube channel calls its viewers to action, encouraging comments and the like with its Yankees-lovin’ videos.

Though an avid Dodgers fan (as the channel’s name implies), this YouTube creator claims to “respect fans of all baseball teams.” However, he holds season tickets only to the Dodgers, hence the channel’s content. The most impressive aspect of DodgerFilms is not only how many home runs its creator has caught, but how he’s managed to catch (pun intended) all of them on film:
