YouTube might have “Epic Rap Battles of History,” but Vimeo can now lay claim to “Total Slaughter,” a three-hour concert special in which some of the biggest names in battle-rap go head-to-head to see who’s the best.
Co-produced by Eminem’s Shady Films and Electus Digital’s WatchLoud.com, “Total Slaughter” is the inaugural event of the new rap-battle league Total Slaughter, which was formed earlier this year by Shady Films and Shady Records group Slaughterhouse. The special, which was shot in July at New York City’s Hammerstein Ballroom, includes an undercard featuring several up-and-comers, as well as a main event highlighted by stars like Joe Budden, Murda Mook, Loaded Lux, and Hollow Da Don.
The special will be available worldwide via Vimeo On Demand, which is also powering the streaming experience on TotalSlaughter.tv. For $5.99, fans can stream the entire event, while $12.99 will allow them to download and own the special.
“Battle rap is a category that’s starting to get a lot of traction on Vimeo and we’re excited to be partnering with Electus Digital and Shady Films to power the digital release of ‘Total Slaughter,’” said Sam Toles, VP of content acquisition and business development for Vimeo.
In addition to the special itself, a bundle is available that features two complementary documentaries, “Road to Total Slaughter” and “Bright Lights,” which can be streamed for $7.99 or downloaded for $14.99.
“Road to Total Slaughter” is a four-part reality-competition series that determined the undercard battlers for the three-hour special. Featuring judges Joe Budden, Joell Ortiz, Royce da 5’9”, and Crooked I, the series was filmed in Brooklyn and originally aired on Fuse this summer in the lead-up to the main event.
“Bright Lights” shines the light on the “Total Slaughter” headliners, providing battle histories for each contender as well as showing them preparing for the main event. The documentary is narrated by Royce da 5’9”.
