Crackle has started production on “The Throwaways,” a feature-length spy thriller from Jeremy Renner.
Originally announced during Crackle’s 2014 Newfront, “The Throwaways” will center on a gifted hacker captured by the CIA and given an ultimatum to either work for them or go to prison for the rest of his life. He agrees to join the agency on the condition that he gets to pick his team, the titular “throwaways.” Everybody then has to race against the clock to find and take down a cyber-terrorist.
With a planned running time of 90 minutes, “The Throwaways” is written by Michael Ross (“Turistas”), directed by Sundance winner Tony Bui (“Three Seasons”), and will star Sam Huntington (“Being Human”), Kevin Dillon (“Entourage”), and James Caan (“The Godfather”).
Renner is executive producing alongside Don Handfield through their production company The Combine, which is also behind the upcoming “Kill the Messenger” for Focus Features.
“The Throwaways” will be shot in Sofia, Bulgaria through October. Release is scheduled for December 2014.
