Mobile video ad firm Vdopia has launched a new version of its patented video file format .Vdo, which is designed to help publishers run video ads on mobile websites and apps without requiring Flash or plug-ins.
The update, labeled .Vdo 2.0, is focused on helping advertisers adapt to the growing variance in mobile device screen sizes, as well as powering better overall video quality. For instance, the new version supports both the standard 4:3 and 16:9 aspect ratios for video content, as well as any other “desired configuration” that best fits a particular screen size.
Among the other updates, upgrades to the conversion process have reduced video file size and load time, and “stringent automated checks” do a better job of ensuring that only high-quality source files are chosen, said the company.
