“Power Rangers” is getting a digital rebirth, thanks to Starz Digital Media and a new spoof series called “Space Riders: Division Earth.” Written by and starring comedians Mark Little and Dan Beirne, the “Power Rangers” satire is debuting on Union Pool, a YouTube comedy channel from the pay-TV company.
“Space Riders: Division Earth” will span 13 episodes, each ranging from four to eight minutes. They’ll debut every week on Union Pool, starting September 30.
Little, a Funny or Die contributor, and Beirne, who’s appeared in “Dad Drives” and “The Bitter End,” wrote the show, which the Independent Production Fund, Ontario Media Development Corporation, Bell Media, and iThentic financed. iThentic and Bell also produced the series along with Lisa Baylin.
So far, “Space Riders” has been streaming on CTV Extend in Canada. Starz Digital took it up in the US to add to its spoofing repertoire on Union Pool. Series that poke fun at Harry Potter, X-Men, and “Game of Thrones,” among many others, already exist on the channel.
Jordan Canning directs the series, while Jonas Diamond and Catherine Tait executive produce.
