Production has begun on “Sin City Saints,” an upcoming sports comedy series from Yahoo and Mandalay Sports Media.
Set in Las Vegas, the half-hour comedy will follow the triumphs, travails, and transgressions of a fictional new pro-basketball franchise.
The cast is anchored by Andrew Santino (ABC’s short-lived “Mixology”) as Jake Tullus, the Saints’ unpredictable and charismatic owner who made his fortune as an “internet disruptor.” Malin Akerman (ABC’s short-lived “Trophy Wife”) will star opposite Santino as Dusty Halford, a Stanford-educated lawyer working for the league commissioner.
Other cast members include Tom Arnold as a private casino host, BK Cannon (“Switched at Birth”), Justin Chon (“Twilight”), Keith Powers (“Pretty Little Liars”), and former NBA stars Rick Fox and Baron Davis.
“Sin City Saints” will be executive produced by Mike Tollin (“Smallville”), Chris Case (“Spin City”), and Bryan Gordon (“Party Down”), who will also direct. Fred Savage (“Happy Endings”) will also direct two episodes. Spanning eight episodes, the series is expected to launch on Yahoo by the winter.
The project was first announced by Yahoo during its 2014 Newfront. No word on the status of Yahoo’s other half-hour original, “Other Space,” which will come from executive producer Paul Feig (“Bridesmaids”). “Community,” the other top comedy project on Yahoo’s programming slate, is also in production for its sixth season.
