UK pay-TV giant British Sky Broadcasting just invested $500,000 into online video network Pluto.TV.
Pluto.TV hosts a variety of channels, with content from companies like Complex, Fullscreen, and Funny or Die along with many others that run videos 24/7 on the online video service. BSkyB now adds Pluto.TV to the list of US startups it’s already invested in, like ad tech company Sharethrough and connected-TV devices provider Roku, in an effort to extend its investment portfolio across the Atlantic.
BSkyB director of corporate business development, Emma Lloyd, stated, “This partnership enables Sky to draw on the ground-breaking work Pluto.TV are doing to help viewers discover and enjoy the best of online TV through an intuitive and editorially rich TV platform. As we learn about new trends in the way people watch TV, we look forward to sharing out own expertise in content creation, packaging, and promotion.”
Pluto.TV launched back in March and has not announced how much funding its achieved thus far.
