Touted features include compatibility with Vine and Instagram videos, auto-play, and potentially infinite looping. Furthermore, the vide player can pop out of Tumblr’s main feed, so users can watch a video on the side of the pige while continuing to scroll through their Tumblr feed.
As an update, it’s not a major development for Tumblr, which allows users to embed YouTube, Vimeo, Vine, and Instagram clips to blog posts. But those who follow the online video space already know that Tumblr is likely to be a linchpin for Yahoo’s still-in-progress video strategy.
In addition to licensing a bunch of premium (TV) content and offering some of its own, Yahoo, which acquired Tumblr last year for a cool billion, is trying to convince popular YouTube creators to distribute their stuff on the popular blogging platform. So far, Yahoo hasn’t had much success in this department, but any potential progress requires a native video player that, well, “works” — which Tumblr now (jokingly) says it does.
