Former Hulu executive Andy Forssell has joined Showyou, a video startup that aggregates and distributes content across web and mobile platforms, as its new chief executive officer.
“He is one of the most talented and creative executives we’ve ever met and knows as much about the television and online video space as anyone we know,” said Showyou founder and now-former CEO Mark Hall. With Forssell’s appointment, Hall is transitioning to a new role as president of Showyou.
Forssell spent more than six years at Hulu, starting as SVP of content and distribution. He played a major role in Hulu’s first foray into original and exclusive programming. In 2013, following Hulu’s then-CEO Jason Kilar’s departure, Forssell held down the top job as acting CEO. That year, the company crossed a billion dollars in revenue for the first time.
At Showyou, Forssell will now be responsible for growing a video platform that started out as a discovery service. Now, Showyou’s platform is more channels based. Creators and publishers on the platform can monetize content via ad-supported and/or paid channels — something Forssell is more than familiar with from his time at Hulu.
Showyou is backed by True Ventures, which invested more than $5 million into the startup.
