Popcornflix, a video streaming service from independent distributor Screen Media Ventures, is now available on the Xbox One in the US and Canada.
In addition to the Xbox One launch, Popcornflix is also debuting a new kids section on its service, allowing users to access family-friendly programming directly from its home page. Popcornflix Kids’ library currently includes classic cartoons like “Popeye” and seasonal programs like “The Nutcracker.”
Competing in a space that’s dominated by Netflix, Popcornflix seeks to differentiate itself by offering its content — mostly independent and/or cult movies and TV shows — for free. Each title on the service comes with pre-roll, as well as various spot and banner ads.
In addition to the Xbox One, the service is also available on the Xbox 360 and Roku, connected-TVs from Samsung and Panasonic, and iOS and Android mobile devices.
