Netflix (NFLX) will debut a feature-length documentary executive produced by Edward Norton on March 6. Called “My Own Man,” the documentary written, directed, and produced by David Sampliner (of “Dirty Work”) explores the relationships between fathers and sons.
“My Own Man” actually follows Sampliner’s own journey through dealing with impending fatherhood, coming to grips with the idea of “masculinity,” and analyzing his own relationship with his father. It first came out in April of last year at the Tribeca Film Festival.
“When I started making this film, I wanted to document an experience I shared with a lot of my peers: becoming a husband and father in a time when the roles for men were changing so dramatically,” said Sampliner in a statement. “But in the course of shooting over seven years, I realized that discovering how to be a 21st century dad meant coming to terms with my own father.”
The documentary was produced by Sixteen Tons Productions with Class 5 Films. In addition to Edward Norton, “My Own Man” was executive produced by William Migliore, Lisa Nishimura, and Adam Del Deo. It was also produced by Rachel Libert along with Sampliner.
