German-based Webedia’s Moviepilot.de will now use video solutions provider Kaltura to power its video content online, specifically using the Kaltura HTML5 video player along with the company’s advertising tools for mobile platforms.
Moviepilot.de is a hub for film fans to read, blog, and watch video about current TV series and movies. According to Kaltura, the site gets upwards of 15 million visits a month. It also has over 500,000 subscribers across its 14 YouTube channels.
The pact with Kaltura came about because Moviepilot.de’s parent company was looking to make the site better suited to mobile devices, the companies said.
“As mobile video continues to grow at a staggering rate, it was clear to us that that HTML5 shouldn’t be just a fallback option, but the core of the player,” product manager for video and mobile at Webedia, Stefan Tieß, said in a statement. “So we began to look for a more forward-looking, innovative video solution that excelled at delivering video and video ads seamlessly on any device.”
According to Tieß, the decision is already fruitful. “In the week after our launch with Kaltura, our weekly mobile video plays took a huge leap and exceeded our desktop plays for the first time in company history.”
