Maker Studios continues to expand to new platforms. Fresh off the news that the multi-channel network will be available on Dish’s Sling TV service, Maker is now announcing a content and distribution deal with Vimeo.
Under the arrangement, Vimeo will fund various projects produced by Maker and then distribute them in “exclusive windows” on Vimeo On Demand. The deal will run through 2015, with Vimeo owning global distribution rights.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, and it’s unclear what type of content Maker plans to produce. That said, in the past year, Vimeo has built its Vimeo On Demand service as a platform for filmmakers to sell their work directly to fans. This has included working with several YouTubers, including Joey Graceffa and Freddie Wong, to distribute their short films and web series. It’s likely Maker-produced content stays within those formats.
Vimeo will also offer Vimeo Pro accounts at a discounted rate to YouTube creators networked with Maker, the companies said. Additionally, the same creators will have access to educational sessions on how to start selling on Vimeo On Demand.
One of the largest MCNs on YouTube, Maker Studios currently represents (in one fashion or another) 55,000 channels, with an audience reach of more than 600 million subscribers.
