YouTube creators are getting even more high-profile than you may have realized, so much so that some of the bigger ones are taking a trip the White House to ask the president questions directly following this year’s State of the Union.
YouTube creators ready to interview President Obama include Bethany Mota, GloZell Green (real name: GloZell Lynette Simon), and Hank Green (no relation). Leading up to the interview, these YouTubers will ask their fans what questions they have for the president, some of which will carry over to the big interview. If you have a question, you can use the hashtag #YouTubeAsksObama to get it out on social media.
Since the president’s annual address will take place this year on January 20 (at 9pm ET), the YouTube creator interview will take place on January 22, where it will be broadcast live from the White House.
Previously, President Obama engaged with his constituents via YouTube and Google following the State of the Union address. This new Q&A format acknowledges how influential certain YouTube creators are for a large demographic (young people) and the engagement level of those who look to YouTube for information (a lot of people).
