YouTube is the biggest thing in (ad-supported) online video — but as many people have been trying to tell anyone who listens in the past year, it’s not the only giant. This is especially important for advertisers, according to video measurement and analytics startup Visible Measures, which has launched a new public website that shows exactly how many times an ad was viewed online, on YouTube and beyond.
Available at TrueReach.org, the site serves dual purposes: it’s a hub for people to go and watch ads and other forms of branded content, and a place for them to see how many views those videos have accumulated on the web. In addition to YouTube, the site tracks views on over 500 sites including major drivers of traffic like Facebook, AOL, and Vimeo.
Each video on the site shows its “true reach” as well as the number of videos and sites Visible Measures is tracking as part of the campaign.
Visible Measures’ tracking includes viewership of videos posted by the advertiser, as well as user-uploaded copies of the video as well as other forms of “derivative” (earned) content. And the site isn’t restricted to videos from clients of Visible Measures, it will keep track of all major video campaigns, the company said. (That said, a utility such as this doesn’t sound like a terrible way to land new business.)
