MCNs aren’t just for teenage beauty gurus and gamers anymore. A new one in the UK is just for mothers (“mums,” because it’s the UK).
Called Channel Mum, it was founded by the same woman who founded Netmums (a large, UK-based parenting website), Siobhan Freegard. Freegard launched the MCN in response to the significant number of babies born to millennials in the past year, millennials who are likely to turn to online video for parenting advice.
Channel Mum is partnering with “influential mum talent” (aka, established mom YouTubers), though the MCN has yet to give specific names. The MCN will have a big focus on marketing to its specific demographic, and it’s collaborating with Panasonic to offer 100 emerging “mum” talents peer mentoring, £1000, and camera equipment.
According to statistics from Channel Mum, the top 15 UK YouTube moms accounted for over 50 hours of video and upwards of 13 million views in December 2014.
