Written by Michael Arlen Ross (“Turistas”) and directed by Sundance winner Tony Bui (“Three Seasons”), “The Throwaways” is described as a “comedic international cyber-spy thriller.” It follows the exploits of a notorious hacker named Drew Reynolds, who is captured by the CIA and given an ultimatum to either work for them or spend the rest of his life in jail. He agrees on the condition that he gets to pick his team, who then help him track down a cyber-terrorist.
The film stars James Caan, Kevin Dillon, Sam Huntington, Katie McGrath, Christian Hillborg, and Jack Kesy. It’s produced by Jeffery Beach, Phillip Roth, and executive produced by Timothy Linh Bui (“Green Dragon”) and Renner a Don Handfield through their productino company The Combine.
First announced during Crackle’s Newfront last spring, “The Throwaways” was delayed after Crackle’s parent company, Sony Pictures Entertainment, suffered a massive cyber-attack last fall. The film’s plot hit a little close to home, and the company chose to delay the release until January.
