Whistle Sports has hired former Time Warner and Viacom executive Laura Fortner as its new executive vice president of marketing and business development.
“My job is to help Whistle Sports grow and reach new audiences, and drive the company’s monetization strategy,” said Fortner in a statement. “The overall growth potential for Whistle Sports is enormous and I am eager to help such a stellar team expand our capabilities and propel the company through its next progression.”
Whistle’s YouTube MCN currently sports 247 channel partners combining to reach 13 million subscribers. The company’s entire social footprint, including pages and channels on Facebook, Vine, Snapchat, Twitter, and Instagram, stands at 50 million.
At Whistle, Fortner will join a team that includes CEO John West, co-founder and CMO Jeff Urban (a former SVP of sports marketing at Gatorade), head of content partnerships Julie Kikla (founding member of the YouTube sports team), and head of partner operations Dev Sethi (founding member of YouTube’s online acquisitions team).
Previously, Fortner was at CafeMom, where she was responsible for audience and brand growth and the development of marketing and ad solutions. She’s also held executive positions at CNN, CNN.com, CNNmoney.com, Cartoon Network, and Nickelodeon.
