Amazon Studios is developing a reboot of the classic children’s show “Sigmund and the Sea Monsters.”
Via a development deal with veteran TV producers Sid and Marty Krofft, Amazon Studios will develop a “reimagined” pilot for the show, which followed a sea monster who was cast out by his family for refusing to frighten people. The series aired for a few years on NBC in the mid 1970s.
Amazon did not provide a timetable, or specify a date when the pilot will be available.
The series will join a children’s pilot lineup at Amazon that includes shows like “Buddy: Tech Detective” (from Jon Burton of “The Lego Movie), “Sarah Solves It” (from the creators of “Arthur” and “Blue’s Clues”*), and “Table 58” (from May Chan of “Phineas & Ferb”). Obviously, by the time a pilot for “Sigmund” is made, there will likely be a new crop of children’s pilots under consideration at Amazon Studios.
* Amazon has already ordered a full series from “Blue’s Clues” creator Angela Santomero — “Wishenpoof,” which was part of the company’s first pilot season.
