TruTV has ordered a pilot for “Adam Ruins Everything” (working title), a half-hour comedy starring comedian Adam Conover. The pilot comes from Big Breakfast, a Los Angeles-based digital and TV production studio unit of Electus Digital and CollegeHumor.
Described by Big Breakfast as an “investigative” comedy, “Adam Ruins Everything” will follow Conover as he explores topics and ideas that people take for granted and dispels widespread misconceptions about them through a combination of “comedy, history, and science.” It’s based on CollegeHumor online series of the same name, which has generated more than 20 million views since its launch in February 2014.
Here’s the first sketch from the online series, which has netted more than 5 million views on YouTube to date.
TruTV is currently available in 92 million US households, and features a mix of comedy and lifestyle series such as “Impractical Jokers,” “Hair Jacked,” and “Friends of the People.”
This is not the first CollegeHumor web series that’s attempted to move to TV. In December 2013, TBS announced that it was developing a TV version of the humor site’s long-running “Jake & Amir” series. As of last January, the duo at the center of the show, Jake Hurwitz and Amir Blumenfeld, said the pilot script had been written. TBS has yet to announce a decision on whether the pilot will be filmed.
