Spike Lee is joining men’s lifestyle publisher Complex Media as a board advisor for video projects and branded content.
This will give Complex access to Lee’s companies — his agency, Spike DDB, and his production company, 40 Acres and a Mule Filmworks. The media platform plans to develop more “edgy” content in line with Lee’s work through the partnership by collaborating on short films, branded content, and long-form content, both scripted and documentaries.
“This is a true strategic venture between one of the most talented filmmakers and brand-savvy creative directors in the world and our creative team at Complex,” said Complex’s chief branding officer, Marc Ecko. “Spike will bring a rigor, gravitas, and excellence into how we both build out the infrastructure for branded content and video.”
Complex currently works with brands such as Mountain Dew, Pepsi, Toyota, and Nike. The publisher also recently acquired entertainment site Collider, which has a focus on movies and TV shows.
