Netflix has ordered “Montauk,” a new hour-long drama series from directors Matt and Ross Duffer (“Waywird Pines”) and executive producer Shawn Levy (“The Internship”).
A mystery in the vein of 1980s classics, “Montauk” will center on a search for a boy who vanishes into thin air in 1980 Montauk, Long Island. As friends, family, and local police search for answers, they are drawn into an extraordinary mystery involving government experiments, supernatural forces, and a strange little girl, according to Netflix.
Netflix’s order is for eight episodes, which will debut on the streaming service in 2016. The entire season will be written and directed by the Duffer brothers, who will also serve as executive producers alongside Levy and Dan Cohen through their entertainment banner 21 Laps. The series is a Netflix production.
“Matt and Ross are emerging filmmakers with an unmistakable passion for genre and suspense,” said Cindy Holland, VP of original content at Netflix, in a statement. “Their unique voice infuses this coming of age drama with supernatural thrills that will captivate our global audience.”
