AOL is launching “2 Point Lead,” a daily sports and comedy series targeted for mobile and millennial audiences.
Hosted by comedian Yannis Pappas, “2 Point Lead” will “go beyond the news” and offer a humorous take on sports culture, AOL said. The focus will be on creating satirical, short-form content that is easily viewable and shareable on mobile and social platforms. As such, viewers can expect sketches, interviews, man-on-the-street clips, and other funny segments featuring famous comedians and athletes.
Pappas is the former co-host of MSG’s fan-focused sports show “The Bracket.” He will be joined by Nick Creegan, who won a contest held last fall to be a personality on an AOL-produced sports show. Creegan will be featured in various interviews and segments for the series.
Episodes of “2 Point Lead” will air on AOL.com at 2pm ET every weekday. The series will also be available on AOL’s mobile app and the company’s larger video and syndication network.
It’s the second daily show AOL is programming under the leadership of Dermot McCormack, president of AOL Video and AOL Studios, after the launch of the morning news show “Rise” earlier this year.
“‘2 Point Lead’ is part of our continued focus to bring innovative sports content to AOL across devices,” said McCormack. “‘2 Point Lead’ gives us the opportunity to engage with our social media base and the robust conversations that are happening around sports and create a show that is uniquely our own.”
The deal comes a week after AOL netted a distribution deal with Fox Sports for the network’s original online video content and TV clips and highlights. The company also has a similar partnership with ESPN.
