Amazon Studios has set the cast for its drama pilot about 18th century Italian writer and adventurer Giacomo Casanova.
Still untitled, the pilot will feature Diego Luna (“Elysium”) as Casanova, alongside other cast members Miranda Richardson (“Rubicon”), Bojana Novakovic (“Shameless”), Ben Daniels (“House of Cards”), and Amelia Clarkson. It will be directed by Oscar-nominated filmmaker Jean-Pierre Jeunet (“Amelie”).
Produced by Electus, the pilot (and if picked up, series) will focus on the lesser-known period in Casanova’s life — specifically his two-decade exile from Italy, when he broke out of prison and moved to Paris to start a new life.
The pilot is written by Stu Zicherman (“The Americans”), who will executive produce alongside Electus chief Ben Silverman (“Jane the Virgin”). Sarah Caplan (“Ray Donovan”) is co-executive producing.
It’s of course not the first historical drama that Electus is producing for a streaming platform. The studio (in partnership with The Weinstein Company) is also behind Netflix’s “Marco Polo,” which has already been renewed for a second season.
