German children’s network Super RTL is launching a standalone, SVOD platform, Kividoo.
The streaming service will offer over 3,500 episodes at launch from production companies like DreamWorks Animation, the BBC, and Germany-based ZDF Enterprises and Studio Hamburg. Programs on Kividoo will include “All Hail King Julien,” “The Adventures of Puss in Boots,” and “Shrek” from DreamWorks (the first two of which are Netflix originals in the US); “Earth” from the BBC; “Sesame Street Classics” from Studio Hamburg; and “Wendy” and “The Jungle Book” from ZDF Enterprises.
Kividoo will cost €5.99 per month (that’s $6.53), making it cheaper than Netflix, which goes for the equivalent of about $8.70 in Germany. However, Kividoo is only offering kids’ content, preventing it from becoming a true competitor to the international streaming giant.
