Morgan Spurlock’s digital film studio and distribution house Cinelan is partnering with “Goodfellas” producer Barbara DeFina and screenwriter J.D. Zeik on a short-form drama series starring Evan Handler.
Called “The Analyst,” the series will follow a CIA analyst named Kevin Mercer, played by Handler, as he’s being hunted down by a mysterious foe. The plotline of “financial espionage,” set in the Mercer’s workplace — the CIA’s terrorism finance tracking unit — is based on an original story by writer Zeik.
“The Analyst” will be executive produced by DeFina, with production set to begin in early 2016. Season one, comprised of 10, eight-minute episodes, should debut in the fall of that year on digital platforms.
Two co-founders of Cinelan, Karol Martesko-Fenster and Douglas Dicconson, with the studio’s advisor Joe Cantwell, will also serve as producers on “The Analyst.” Cinelan has produced and distributed digital content like short film series “We the Economy,” which appeared across iOS and Android apps in addition to Amazon Instant Video, AOL On, Hulu, CNNMoney, iTunes, Netflix, SnagFilms, Vimeo, YouTube, and more.
