Directed by filmmaker Michael Apted, “Bending the Light” focuses on the creators of camera lenses and the creators of art made with those lenses. The documentary goes into Canon’s Japan-based lens factory and shows interviews with the engineers there before showcasing big deal photographers and cinematographers (who use Canon products) such as Stephen Goldblatt, Greg Gorman, Laura El-Tantawy, and others.
“Behind the Light” also has a sort of geographical theme. “My hope for this film was to show the connection between Japanese lensmakers and a handful of talented Western photographers; at a glance, seemingly disparate entities, but both artisans in their own right,” said Apted. Vimeo decided to distribute the film because it “speaks to Vimeo’s core community of creators,” said the company’s VP of content acquisitions and business development, Sam Toles.
You can rent “Bending the Light” on Vimeo on Demand now for $4.99 or buy it there for $12.99.
