Produced by Tiger Aspect Productions and Lookout Point, “Ripper Street” takes place in late 1880s London, shortly after the infamous Jack the Ripper murders. The drama follows detectives and policemen of the Whitechapel H Division as they investigate those grisly murders and other crimes. The series stars Matthew Macfadyen (“Pride & Prejudice”), Jerome Flynn (“Game of Thrones”), and Adam Rothenberg.
The third season, which premiered on Amazon Prime Instant Video in the UK last November, made “Ripper Street” the most-viewed series on the streaming service, according to Amazon.
Production on seasons four and five is set to begin, with premiere dates still to be announced.
For those interested in watching the series in the US, it’s unclear yet if Amazon and BBC (which are co-producing the new seasons) will air episodes on BBC America after the UK premiere, as they did with season three.
Per the report, the new pilots include “Trial,” a legal drama from David E. Kelley (“The Practice”); “Edge,” a spaghetti western series (based on the books of the same name) from Shane Black (“Lethal Weapon,” “Iron Man 3”); “The Patriot,” a political family dramedy from Steve Conrad (“The Pursuit of Happyness”); and “The Good Girls Revolt,” a 1970s office drama from Dana Calvo (“Covert Affairs”).
