Called Polaris+, the channel is an extension of Maker’s gaming vertical, Polaris, which attracts more than 3 billion views per month on YouTube. On Sling, it will offer access to an assortment of gaming, pop culture, comic, and live-event programming starring top Maker Studios and other online personalities.
Notably, the channel will feature “long-form original programming” available to Sling customers on an exclusive, first-run basis, according to Sling TV CMO Glenn Eisen. This includes long-form versions of Polaris’ popular online series such as “Friendzone,” he added.
Polaris+ joins Maker Studios’ flagship channel on Sling, which offers access to the network’s library of short-form videos both produced in-house and by its talent network. The channel will be available as part of Sling’s core “Best of Live TV” package, which is available for $20 per month and also offers top TV channels such as ESPN and AMC.
Maker’s presence on Sling is the result of a broad carriage deal inked by Dish Network and Disney that includes TV and online distribution rights. Sling TV CEO Roger Lynch credits the deal as being a key reason his online TV service was able to get off the ground.
