Paul Kontonis, SVP of strategy at Collective Digital Studio, one of the most prominent multi-channel networks on YouTube, has left the company.
A longtime veteran of the online-video business, Kontonis spearheaded the CDS Channel Services program for the digital network, building and operating YouTube channels for brands such as Estee Lauder and Purina. He also oversaw the relaunch of the CDS brand earlier this year, and assisted the company in putting together its first NewFronts presentation in May.
During his tenure at CDS, Kontonis was also the executive director for the Global Online Video Association, an industry group focused on advancing the “business interests” of its member companies and the online video industry as a whole. He was GOVA’s first executive director, a position he recently vacated and has been filled in the interim by Chris Door. Kontonis is remaining with the group on a part-time basis in the role of president.
Prior to CDS and GOVA, Kontonis was most notably an executive at DigitasLBi, where he was part of the team that helped launch the first industry-wide Digital Content NewFronts in 2012. He is also a former chairman of the IAWTV.
It’s unclear where he’s headed next. In the immediate future, Kontonis says he’s set to do a keynote presentation at Tubecon — which is described as the “biggest Scandinavian YouTube event” with more than 10,000 attendees — on August 14 from Helsinki, Finland.
