Seth Laderman has been chosen by Lionsgate and Comic-Con International, the producer behind San Diego Comic-Con, to run a subscription video streaming service the two companies plan to launch in early 2016.
As executive vice president and general manager of the previously announced service, Laderman will be responsible for acquiring programming, including original short-form content created exclusively for the service, and relevant films and TV series from Lionsgate and other studios that cater to the various interests of the broad Comic-Con community. (The service, which is targeting a Q1 2016 launch, will also offer exclusive archived footage from the past 45 years of Comic-Con.)
Laderman comes to this new service from Legendary Entertainment, where he served as head of production for Legendary Digital and Chris Hardwick’s Nerdist Industries. There, he helped steer Nerdist’s growth on YouTube where it currently has more than 1.1 million subscribers. He also oversaw the Nerdist Podcast Network, which encompassed more than 30 different podcasts with new programming airing seven nights a week.
While at Nerdist, Laderman also launched and executive produced a number of digital projects, some of which later transitioned to TV, including “All Star Celebrity Bowling” on AMC, “Nerdist News” on Syfy, “Justin Willman’s Magic Meltdown” on Comedy Central. He’s also an executive producer on Legendary and Fullscreen’s upcoming reboot of “Electra Woman and Dyna Girl,” which will star YouTubers Grace Helbig and Hannah Hart.
Laderman was also SVP for Legendary Digital Networks, which was launched after Legendary acquired Nerdist. In that role, he ran day-to-day operations and oversaw content acquisition and development for Amy Poehler’s Smart Girls at the Party and Felicia Day’s Geek & Sundry, in addition to Nerdist Industries.
“I worked with Seth at Nerdist, and he speaks our language,” said Lionsgate’s president of interactive ventures and games, Peter Levin, in a statement. “His understanding of the fan experience and his track record of launching great new digital shows make him the perfect choice to lead the expansion of the pop culture event of the year into a year-round online experience for future generation fans, geeks, nerds like us, and newbies alike.”
