“Crafted,” a short documentary directed by Morgan Spurlock, is now available to stream exclusively on Amazon Prime for the next four months before people can watch it elsewhere. The short film follows five artisans, whose crafts include pottery, culinary arts, and knives. “Crafted” was produced by Spurlock’s Warrior Poets Productions and is distributed by Kinonation in the US. Though “Crafted” isn’t a branded short, it was commissioned by Häagen-Dazs. Amazon Prime Instant Video members can watch the documentary for free, while non-members have to pay.
Marriott International has formed a partnership with Universal Music Group that will consist of live performances, ticket deals, social content, music downloads, and — the real topic of interest, here — branded video series. Details about the series have yet to be announced, but for now we know they’ll somehow incorporate both the Marriott’s various brands (like The Ritz-Carlton and Renaissance) and UMG’s various labels (like Def Jam Recordings and UMG Nashville). The video content will likely feature both established and emerging artists, as this range of music talent will appear across live performances from the partnership.
Netflix will premiere “Narcos,” its take on the Pablo Escobar story, on August 28. Produced by Gaumont International Television for Netflix, the series will center on two DEA agents who are sent to Colombia to capture the notorious cocaine kingpin. Stars include Boyd Holbrook (“Gone Girl”), Pedro Pascal (“Game of Thrones”), and Wagner Moura. The series will debut across all Netflix territories. It’s the second show for Netflix from Gaumont, which also produced three seasons of Eli Roth’s “Hemlock Grove.”
Nerdist, Geek & Sundry, and Smart Girls are teaming up to bring the Nerdist Conival to Comic-Con this year in San Diego. Nerdist and 2K and Gearbox Software will offer Laser Tag at Petco Park during the event, while Geek & Sundry will provide both analog and digital games in addition to a unique twist on jousting. Meanwhile, Amy Poehler’s Smart Girls will let Comic-Con goers create art with STEM. Felicia Day of Geek & Sundry will be around throughout the Nerdist Conival, as will Daniel Radcliffe, Wil Wheaton, Nathan Fillion, and others, including the cast of upcoming series such as “Colony.” Here’s a full list of who you can see at the Nerdist Conival this year.
Video advertising tech company YuMe has launched a programmatic video marketplace for agencies, advertisers, and publishers. The offering consists of two products: YuMe for Advertisers, which offers access to the company’s video ad supply as well as other major video marketplaces and supply-side platforms; and YuMe for Publishers, which is described as a real-time bidding second-price auction marketplace with features that include ad-serving, yield management, and analytics.
