Action camera maker GoPro has hired former Hulu head of originals Charlotte Koh in the newly-created position of head of features and series, it was reported by Variety.
Similar to energy drink maker Red Bull, GoPro has established itself as a purveyor of extreme sports videos on various social media channels, including YouTube, where it has amassed more than 3.15 million subscribers and 851.7 million views.
Koh told Variety that she will be striking partnerships with Hollywood creatives as well as studios and networks to develop and co-produce new content using GoPro’s signature cameras, but she couldn’t go into specifics about the nature of the content because they were still in the “seed-planting stage.”
In January, Koh was hired by mobile video clip sharing and creation platform Whipclip as SVP of content and partnerships, overseeing content acquisition and relationships with media partners, but the job is curiously absent from her LinkedIn résumé, as well as the Variety report.
Joining Hulu in 2011, Koh oversaw the VOD service’s slate of original series, including the Seth Meyers’ animated show “The Awesomes” and “Deadbeat,” a supernatural comedy starring Tyler Labine that debuted the week she departed the company in April 2014. Her exit coincided with Hulu’s hire of Warner Horizon Television EVP Craig Erwich as its new SVP and head of content.
Prior to Hulu, Koh served as SVP of business development at Marvel Studios, where she wrote the business plan for the Marvel One-Shot series of shorts and led the company’s home entertainment business.
