Refinery 29 premiered the latest addition to its expanded video slate on Monday. Titled “Tehran Unveiled,” the four-part docu-series highlights the work of four woman living and working in the Iranian capital — an artist, a musician, a fashion designer and an athlete — each of whom challenge social, political, and religious conventions in the pursuit of creative expression.
Refinery 29 has built a global brand by featuring content for and about women with a millennial mindset that attracts an estimated 25 million unique views a month to its web site. In April, the company landed $50 million in funding from Scripps earmarked for expanding its content offerings and achieving global reach through the use of social and video content.
Refinery 29’s EVP of programming Amy Emmerich, an alum of both Scripps and disruptive news media organization Vice, oversaw “Tehran Unveiled.” Foad Faridzadeh (“Operation Endgame”) and Eric Evangelista (“Breaking Amish,” “The Sisterhood: Becoming Nuns,” “Amish Mafia”) produced.
