In print since 1914, The New Republic is a traditionally left-leaning news and culture publication founded by members of the American progressive movement. In 2012, Facebook co-founder Chris Hughes purchased a majority stake in the publication. In 2014, Hughes and CEO Guy Vidra, formerly the head of Yahoo News, announced structural changes designed to transform it into “a vertically integrated digital media company.”
]In a statement, The New Republic guaranteed that Novel priorities would not influence the magazine’s traditional editorial team.
Coinciding with the launch of Novel, Andrew Essex, former chairman of ad giant Droga5, will join The New Republic advisory board, where he will focus on developing Novel projects.
