Endemol Beyond USA began production on a U.S. version of its popular U.K. series “Legends of Gaming” today at the YouTube Space LA. It will be the flagship series of Smasher, a new YouTube network Endemol Beyond USA is launching later this year.
Hosted by Toby Turner (more than 2M subscribers and 351M views on YouTube), the show will feature a lineup of gaming coaches that includes Fatal1ty of Fatality Gaming Gear and Perfect Legend of Team Razer, HotShottGG and Hafu. Confirmed contestants include Smosh Games host The Jovenshire, SyndicateProject, Terroriser. TmarTn, OMGitsfirefoxx, iiJERiiCHOii, Lui Calibre and J.D. Witherspoon (a.k.a. runJDrun). Collectively Turner, the coaches and the contestants have over 43 million subscribers across YouTube, Twitch and Twitter and over 7.5 billion lifetime views across Twitter and Twitch.
According to data released last December by marketing and rights management firm Zefr, gaming is the largest and fastest growing vertical on YouTube, and live e-sports competitions are gaining popularity, with dedicated arenas opening in London and Southern California.
Last September, the U.K. arm of Endemol Beyond launched a Legends of Gaming channel hosted by British YouTube gamer Ali-A that has racked up more than 573K subscribers and 32.6M views. The platform has since been sold to Germany, France and Brazil.
