Creative studio Portal A, best known for the annual Rewind videos it makes with YouTube, has signed with WME for representation.
WME will work with Portal A to package and bring to market its development slate of over 40 original projects, with TV networks, digital distributors and brands all as potential buyers.
Portal A’s primary focus is producing branded videos for clients such as Google, YouTube, Uber, Universal Pictures, Microsoft, Lenovo, NBC Universal, Banana Republic, Benefit Cosmetics, L’Oreal, Waze and Ubisoft. But it has also produced long-form TV content. It recently wrapped the second season of its show “White Collar Brawlers,” which made the jump from digital outlets to Esquire TV in the fall of 2013, and it is currently producing an original series featuring the Gregory Brothers for Maker Studios and Disney.
Portal A is independently owned and operated by its three partners, Kai Hasson, Nate Houghteling and Zach Blume. It has 30 employees (a mix of directors, writers, editors, producers and strategists) divided between its offices in San Francisco and Los Angeles.
“Portal A has been fiercely independent from the start, and we’re extremely proud of everything we’ve accomplished on our own,” said Blume, who serves as Portal A’s managing director. “Now we have WME in our corner, a partnership that supercharges our original content business, and opens doors to new opportunities and new upside for Portal A. As we continue to grow our branded practice, this move will help Portal A return to our roots in original content.”
