At its Television Critic’s Assn. (TCA) presentation on Monday, Amazon announced that the 10-episode second season of its critically-acclaimed series “Transparent” will premiere on December 4 on Amazon Instant Video for Prime members in the U.S., the U.K. and Germany.
Production on season 2 will begin next week in Los Angeles.
The dramedy about a father (Jeffrey Tambor) who comes out to his family as transgender debuted its first season in August 2014. In January, it won a pair Golden Globe award s for Best TV Comedy and Best Actor in TV Series Comedy or Musical for Tambor.
Last month, “Transparent” received 11 Emmy nominations, including nods for Best Comedy, Best Lead Actor in a Comedy (Tambor), Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy (Gaby Hoffmann) and Outstanding Guest Actor (Bradley Whitford).
In June, Amazon revealed that “Transparent” had been renewed for a third season, scheduled to debut sometime in 2016. It was also announced that series creator Jill Soloway had signed an overall deal with Amazon Studios, calling for her to exclusively develop television projects for Amazon Prime.
