Founded in 2008 by illustrator, animator and director Simon Tofield, the London-based company produces the Flash-animated comedy series “Simon’s Cat,” which follows the adventures of a demanding fat housecat and his long-suffering owner. The first installment, “Cat Man Do,” was uploaded to YouTube in March 2008, and the series has gone on to rack up 658M views and 3.53M subscribers.
As part of the deal, the “Simon’s Cat” series becomes fully integrated into the Endemol Beyond multi-channel network. The two companies will also look to expand the property into other areas, including television, publishing, licensing, merchandising and emerging platforms.
Last year, the company raised £310,734 through an Indiegogo campaign to fund the first Simon’s Cat color film, the 13-minute short “Off to the Vet.”
Endemol Shine Group is a joint venture by Endemol, Shine and CORE Media launched at the beginning of 2015 as a global content creator, producer and distributor. Its portfolio a includes a large collection of scripted and non-scripted hits, including “American Idol,” “Big Brother,” “Black Mirror,” “Broadchurch,” “Deal or No Deal,” “Man vs. Food,” “Masterchef,” “Mr. Bean,” “Peaky Blinders,” “So You Think You Can Dance,” “The Biggest Loser,” “The Fall,” “The Money Drop,” “Wipeout.”
Endemol Shine UK and Simon’s Cat were advised on the investment by United Agents. The terms of the deal were not disclosed.
