The video market in Asia continues to heat up. Now, HBO Go is making its service and over 300 hours of premium and original content from HBO and Cinemax Originals available to subscribers in Singapore, in partnership with the streaming platform StarHub Go. That number is expected to rise to over 1000 hours of programming in the coming months with HBO favorites “Game of Thrones”, “True Detective”, “Ballers”, “Entourage” and “The Newsroom” among the first slate of titles being made available starting today.
Discovery Networks, A+E Networks, Scripps Networks Interactive, Sony Pictures Television and TVB are also available via the StarHub Go streaming service, which was launched last week by leading Singapore telecom StarHub.
“For the past two decades, we have been delivering quality family entertainment to Singapore homes via our cable network,” said Ms. Lin Shu Fen, head of entertainment & SmartLife at StarHub. “Now with our over-the-top streaming service, we can serve the growing segment of viewers who consume content on smart devices, as well.”
Much in the way HBO Now users can subscribe to the service independent of a cable subscription to HBO, StarHub Go subscribers will have full access to stream series and feature films for either SGD 9.90 (basic) or SGD 19.90 (premium) per month on iOS, Android and Windows 8.1 devices and PC and Mac computers. The deal represents further disruption to traditional broadcast models across the world in response to the cord cutter generation.
“In our highly-connected nation, we recognise that consumers are increasingly accessing a wide variety of digital content across multiple devices. Therefore, the introduction of StarHub Go — with its carefully-curated line-up along with a superior viewing experience — is specially designed to address customers’ needs for an over-the-top streaming service,” Ms. Lin Shu Fen added.
Because StarHub has mobile devices, broadband and pay television service, the company could connect these three offerings as a mechanism for reaching consumers anywhere and everywhere they are consuming content. And the telcomm provider will see that realized with the rollout of StarHub Go.
“StarHub Mobile customers can even enjoy streaming on the go without having to worry about data charges. With the addition of StarHub Go, StarHub will now offer unparalleled flexibility to new customer segments with our entertainment offerings,” said Lin Shu Sen.
