Billy Bob Thornton will star opposite William Hurt in the Amazon Original series “Trial,” created by David E. Kelley (“Ally McBeal,” “Boston Legal”), according to a report by Variety.
“Trial” focuses on Billy McBride, an attorney who’s turned to drink after being kicked out off the high-profile firm he co-founded who gets a chance at redemption when he gets handed a wrongful death case that puts him up against the head of his old firm (Hurt). The cast will also feature the previously announced Olivia Thirlby (“Juno,” “Dredd”).
“Trial” will be the first Amazon show to go straight to series and skip its pilot system, which allows users in the U.S. and the U.K. to rate each show and provide feedback to help Amazon Studios determine which to greenlight for full seasons.
Kelley co-wrote the pilot with Jonathan Shapiro, a veteran of his shows “The Practice” and “Boston Legal,” and the two will executive produce the series together.
