Disney XD and Disney-owned multi-channel network Maker Studios announced to today that it is teaming to launch Disney XD by Maker, a new initiative to find and develop the next generation of creators for DisneyXD.com, the WATCH Disney XD app and original TV series pilots for Disney XD cable and satellite channels.
Coming on the heels of last week’s announcement that Disney will be employing Maker talent in a global live streaming event to launch the merchandise line for “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” (due in theaters Dec. 18), it signals that the company is finally working in earnest to fulfill its promise to pair the company’s vast vault of IP with the power and reach of the MCN. which has 55,000 independent creators in more than 100 countries, attracting over 10 billion views per month.
Disney XD by Maker will incubate content with Maker’s leading creators — including CaptainSparklez, forrestfire101, ZexyZek, 101DarkMonkey, EvanTubeHD, Luzu and Lana, and Random Encounters — as well invite up-and-coming creators worldwide to participate through Maker Offers, which will provide budgets of up to $1,000 for each project.
Videos created through the initiative will initially be distributed through YouTube creator channels, with the potential for Disney XD to then distribute across digital and traditional platforms and/or develop them as TV pilots. Interested creators, age 18 and over, can apply at makerstudios.com/DisneyXD. Those invited to participate will be provided tools, analytics and development guidance from Maker and Disney XD.
