Awesomeness Films, the feature division of DreamWorks Animation-owned multi-platform media company AwesomenessTV, has announced that actress Zoey Deutch (“Vampire Academy”) is set to star in its upcoming feature, “Before I Fall”
In the film, based on a 2010 young adult novel by Lauren Oliver, Deutch will play Samantha Kingston, a young woman who discovers that she’s living the same day over and over. However, this “Groundhog Day” premise comes with a twist: Kingston is reliving the last day of her life over and over in an effort to solve the mystery of her inevitable death. The film combines a fantastical plot device with the sort YA teen tragedy that has turned the novels of John Green into Hollywood hits.
The film will be directed by Ry Russo-Young (“Nobody Walks”) and produced by AwesomenessTV founder Brian Robbins and newly-appointed Awesomness Films chief Matt Kaplan, along with Jon Shestack (“Bring It On”).

The film was written Maria Maggenti, with revisions by Gina Prince-Bythewood (“Beyond The Lights”). Originally slated for development by Fox 2000 back in 2010, “Before I Fall” stalled out early in the process, only to be revived under the auspices of Awesomeness Films.
The announcement follows a string of big moves for Awesomeness Films, which just last week unveiled its next feature project, the digital influencer-packed “Dance Camp.” ATV’s film division also recently produced “The Smosh Movie” in partnership with Defy Media and the Cameron Dallas vehicle “Expelled.” Other projects currently in production with Awesomeness Films include a mockumentary featuring Aussie pranksters The Janoskians and “Shovel Buddies,” featuring actress Bella Thorne and vlogger Kian Lawley. “Before I Fall” will be the first film in Awesomness’ growing repertoire not to be toplined by a member of AwesomenessTV’s roster of digital influencers.
