Hulu just became the latest streaming platform to join the virtual reality revolution with the announcement that it will launch a dedicated VR app this fall.
The app will allow Hulu subscribers to interact with Hulu content through a 360 degree immersive enviroment which Hulu describes as a virtual living room. Users will also be able to access Hulu’s existing catalog of 2d content through the app, including classic shows, films, and Hulu original series.
To support the launch, Hulu has partnered with RocketJump and Lionsgate for its first original VR short film. Hulu will also begin expanding its library of virtual reality content with licensed VR experiences, as well as future originals from to-be-named content partners.
In a statement, Hulu’s VP of device platforms Julian Eggebrecht said, “Providing viewers with dynamic environments of their choice and themed around their favorite shows provides a whole new level of engagement, which together with our cinematic VR experiences makes Hulu an exciting VR destination.”
